A Letter From Our President
Welcome and thank you for choosing Spokane Falls Community College.
Years ago as a first generation college student, I set foot on a community college campus in Montana not knowing what steps I needed to take to become a student or even what
program I wanted to study. What I did know is I needed an education to give me the knowledge to succeed and open doors to opportunities that I was sure would come my way.
I was fortunate that faculty and staff took an interest in me and were available to guide me throughout my educational journey, answering my questions, and allowing me to
challenge my beliefs and perspectives about what I could accomplish both academically and personally.
As your Acting President, I am hopeful that your community college experience will awaken you to the possibilities the future holds. You have chosen a great place to start
and our faculty stand ready to transform you from student to scholar.
SFCC offers the first two years of virtually any degree offered in the state. Our Direct Transfer Agreement allows you to seamlessly transfer to a four-year college or
university upon completion of your Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Fine Arts degree.
SFCC also offers a variety of Career Technical programs that will give you the skill set to enter the workforce immediately after graduation. Opportunities include Applied and
Digital Arts, Business, Information Technology, Education, Human Services, and Allied Health Sciences.
SFCC is now also offering Bachelor of Applied Science degrees. If you have completed a two-year degree and need an additional credential to advance your career, the BAS
programs are a perfect fit.
Whichever program you choose, know that you will be receiving instruction from a tremendous group of faculty. Our instructors are experts in their field, many at the Ph.D.
level, award winning, and recognized nationally.
As a student you are encouraged to take advantage of the many services we offer including Admissions and Registration, Financial Aid, Placement Testing, Career &
Community Engagement, Academic Advising, Counseling, Peer Mentoring and Tutoring, Workforce Transitions, and Disability Support Services. Be sure to visit our Library,
located in the center of campus, and take a break from studying to workout at the campus fitness center.
I challenge you to get involved and try new things. Our student clubs and organizations allow you to meet and make friends with similar interests. Stop by MOSAIC or the
Veterans Center. Attend a play, concert, or art exhibit and give back by taking part in a service learning opportunity at some point while you are here.
Whether you are attending in Spokane, online, or at our Pullman Campus located on the Washington State University Campus, SFCC is committed to your success.
Darren T. Pitcher, Ed.D.
