Statement of Purpose
The Art Gallery Club meetings are held 2-3 times each quarter and are announced one week in
advance. The club does much of the leg work in scheduling exhibits at
the SFCC Fine Art Gallery. The gallery provides an educational experience
to students and the Spokane community by featuring exhibitions from regional,
national and international artists who work in a variety of media. Each
year we provide a total of eight exhibitions, six of which are dedicated to emerging and established
artists from around the country, and two are dedicated to work by SFCC students.
In addition, we promote the "Visiting Artist Lecture Series",
which each year invites three well-known artists, critics, and/or curators
from around the world. Past participants include video artist Bill Viola; performance artist,
Janine Antoni; art critic, Eleanor Heartney; New York sculptor, Kiki Smith; British sculptor,
David Mach; Installation artist, Jose Bedia; sculptor and performance artist Ken Butler;
photographer, Graciela Iturbide; sculptor, Dustin Shuler; and L.A.writer Doug Harvey.
