International Students at SFCC have two housing choices. Students may apply to participate in our Homestay Program or arrange to use Rental Housing.

Homestay Program

Our Homestay Program is one of the best features about Spokane Falls Community College!

The Homestay Program offers you the opportunity to improve your communication skills, experience American culture on a personal and daily basis, and build a long-term relationship with an American family.

Most of our new international students select Homestay for their initial accommodation. Homestay offers a stable and supportive environment for new international students, and gives the students a chance to become familiar and comfortable with life in Spokane.

Often, after one or two terms living in a Homestay, students will join a roommate for living in an apartment near campus.

The Homestay Program is managed within the International Programs Office, under the administration of Mrs. Teresa Gay. Many of our families have served as Homestay hosts for many years, with many different international students. Our families have been carefully chosen and are as varied as our culture, including nuclear families, single parents, young couples, retirees and singles.

How does Homestay affect a student’s English skills? Homestays provide the new international student with many opportunities for conversation practice. With intensive ESL study during the day, and conversation during home hours, the international student’s English skills develop very quickly.

Apartment Living

There are several privately owned apartment buildings located near SFCC. Students can reach campus by walking in just 5 minutes. Bus service is also very close to the apartment region, and students can reach the central city in just 10 minutes.

Spokane also offers hundreds of other apartment choices, and students can easily find an apartment within their budget, and with all the amenities and features the students want.
