What is a Core Book?
A Core Book is selected yearly as a way of promoting reading and conversation about
important issues across the disciplines. The core book is chosen with the idea that
it should be applicable to many disciplines.
How is the core book chosen?
Any faculty or staff member is welcome to join the core book interest group. During
Spring Quarter group members meet to suggest possible titles for the next year’s
book. Near the end of the quarter, the group narrows the possible titles down to
1-3 titles. An e-mail announcing these titles is sent to campus faculty and staff,
who then vote for their favorite.
What else supports the core book?
Please visit the library's Core Book Web Site for up-to-date information on this year's
core book and links to online resources.
