Chapter Requirements
Know the benefit options and responsibilities for your chapter. For example, some chapters are responsible to confirm their enrollment
on a monthly basis; others are not.
Change of Address
- Call the VA’s toll free number (888-442-4551) to verify that your new address is in their database.
- Notify the post office so they may forward your checks.
- Notify the SFCC VA Office: (509) 533-3504
- Change your SFCC student information online.
Transfer Credits
Please obtain official transcripts for all
prior colleges attended. SFCC must evaluate your transcripts and report to the VA any credits allowed
toward graduation by the end of your third quarter of attendance.
Grades
Your final grades and other factors can adversely affect your eligibility for benefits. Please contact the
Veterans Office with any questions you may have.
- You must earn an overall 2.0 GPA each quarter to remain in good standing with the VA.
- Receiving a "Z" or "W" grade may cause a large overpayment with the VA.
- "F" grades with a last date of attendance reported by the instructor will also cause a large overpayment.
Program of Study
You must apply for a specific educational program. The VA will pay only for those
courses required for graduation.
- Know the requirements for your program.
- Substitute courses must be approved by your counselor/instructor and the dean of the
specific division. Substitute forms are available in each dean’s office.
- Repeat courses are not allowed unless required by the specific
program or are required due to technology advances.
- Counselor error is not an acceptable reason for taking classes not
applicable to your program.
Short Term Courses
Watch out for short-term classes; your benefits may be adversely
affected! The VA only pays you for the dates you are actually in class.
Example: You take an express math class which combines Math 92 and 99 together for 10 credits. The
Math 92 portion of the class is scheduled for the first half of the quarter, while the Math 99
portion is the second half of the quarter. The VA will only certify you for a total of 5 credits.
