About Victor Goines
Victor Goines is a saxophonist, clarinetist, educator and composer, who grew up in Ellis Marsalis’ solid New
Orleans jazz experience. As a member of the sophisticated Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center
Orchestra, Victor Goines has toured throughout the world, and recorded twenty one releases, including Ken Burns’
documentary “JAZZ”. In December, 2008, he was commissioned by the ASCAP Foundation to compose a tribute for the
May 2009 centennial celebration of jazz giant Benny Goodman.
Mr. Goines is currently Director of Jazz Studies, at famed Northwestern University in Chicago, where he nurtures
the current generation of budding jazz artists—and when he speaks, because of where he’s been and how he plays,
they believe! Now, he brings his experience, his expertise and his quintet, composed of some of the hottest players
in the business, to the Spokane Falls Community College Jazz Festival, culminating in the Festival Finale Concert,
on Saturday, February 7, 2009.
